Ulalu

Description

Ulalu (ool-ah-loo) sits within a carefully hidden and defended area of the Shade Marsh within the Everwood. The village consists of various rounded huts made of thatched, mossy roofs and mud bricks layered over a wooden skeleton. The huts are built into the water and ground, with some appearing to be entirely above the water and others appearing to open up into the watery chambers below. Winding, wooden pathways built above the swamp water link all of the homes and structures together. There are various areas open to fishing, crafting, and play. Various lanterns are positioned everywhere here and there. They showcase blue light which appears to be some sort of bioluminescent plants that coexist with swamp light fireflies.

Geography

Located deep within the Shade Marsh of the Everwood, the village of Ulalu is settled around a massive tree with various deep underwater caves.

Government

Ruled over by a patriarchal system of chieftains who display themselves as the strongest and most apt leader.

Trade

The kecuala trade in hides and leathers, meat, and various rare swamp plants. They tend to seek trade goods and do not value gold or silver.

Defenses

The exterior of the village is defended by various well constructed fortifications that are designed to appear as if they were part of the forest/swamp itself. Wooden spikes, vines, thorns, tangled branches.

Rumours & Legends

Notable Locations

  • Old Tree: A towering, ancient tree rises from the center of the village. It is incredibly wide and tall. A couple hundred feet wide and nearly a thousand feet tall (taller than the Everwood's canopy). Thick branches extend over the entire village. It is unclear whether this tree is natural or fey in nature, it is difficult to know. The species of the tree is unknown.
  • Polo Arena: An area of clear water is set aside with woven nets on either side of the cylindrical arena. Two pairs of teams of seven face off against one another, throwing a wooden ball back and forth to try and score on the opponent's net.
  • Semuanya's Rest: A temple rests at the base of the Old Tree dedicated to Semuanya who is said to be connected to Melora in some way. Some say as an ally. Some say as a spirit. The lizardfolk worship Semuanya as their creator nonetheless. The exterior of the temple is marked by the symbol of Semuanya is a lizard's egg.
  • Yakzi's Smithy: A larger mud building, circular as the regular buildings, but with an obvious chimney built within it instead of a simple hole in the roof for cooking fires. Various benches and stations are set up with an old anvil in the center. A large forge burns with blue flame. Woodsmithing is the primary skill practices within, but tables are set up for stonework and metalwork.
