Niccoli Family

The Niccoli family was founded by lieutenant Hervisse of the Imperial Army for his service in the quelling of a particularly viscious raiding army of Hobgoblins occupying a region of Mart dutchy. He personally lead in the storming of Slakkenspire Keep, and beheading of the Hobgoblin general. In recognition of his great deeds and as a response to the loss of house Satear in the conflict, Hervisse was raised to the status of noble. As a part of his elevated station, Hervisse was given lordship over the town of Serrat and of Slakkenspire Keep. Hervisse chose the name Niccoli after an old Velian word for "people of victory". The arms of House Niccoli are: A Ram Affronte proper and 3 pallets Gules on a field of Or; an inverted chevron embattled argent. It's words are, "Stalwart in Strife".   While much of the captured treasure of the Hobgoblin army was returned to the various families and governments which it was originally stolen from, much of the remaining items and coinage found on the Slakkenspire estate went unclaimed. It was from these funds that Lord Niccoli managed to support and aquire various mining and masonry businesses previously recieving patronage from the now defunct Satear family. The various management and workers were happy to continue operation relatively unaltered from their prior state. Though these aquisitions proved economically beneficial for the infant House, the use of looted currency and the takeover of businesses operated by House Satear before a new heir could be found disparaged House Niccoli in the eyes of the local nobility.   The most recent controversy to surround the house occoured in 417 AoE, when Lord Niccoli issued a proclamation that all children he fathered before being risen to the station of nobility could come to Slakkenspire Keep and be legitimized. Such an ordinance caused a large influx of opportunists to descend upon the town of Serrat, all claiming to know of some lost descendant, or to be one themselves. After a rigorous several months of verifying and determining the honesty of the various claims, 10 bastard children were legitimized. Although the finances of the estate are fairly stable, House Niccoli are not well liked by other members of the nobility for their myriad spectacles and percieved inexperience and incompetence.
