Weeping Tree
Weeping Trees are native to the Whispering Madness. They grow hundreds of feet tall and extraordinarily wide. They appear to be the 'eyes' of the Madness itself. Facelike carvings occur naturally on the trees, which leak fresh, clean water constantly. The faces are only vaguely humanoid, but mosslike hair grows from the trees where the face would have a beard or hair. The mouths of the faces don't move to make noise, but they do emit the famous whispering sound their home swamp is known for. Faces appear every twenty feet of a trunk. The leaves are massive and broad, casting permanent darkness over the swamp. The weeping trees sometimes grow into building-like shapes at their bases, which are frequently used by the swamp's humanoid inhabitants. These buildings are so common that entire cities such as Jianzhen are made entirely of the weeping trees, still alive and not cut by humanoid means. Some trees can make the eyes of their faces glow a bright blue or white or green.
Basic Information
Dietary Needs and Habits
The trees absorb light as most plants do, and take nutrients in from the soil. Small creatures that crawl or fly into the mouths of the trees are eaten, the only time the trees are known to move.
Additional Information
Average Intelligence
The trees appear to possess rudimentary sentience, but it is unclear if the swamp itself is using the trees as a mouthpiece, if they are an extension of it's will, or if some other bizarre explanation is waiting to be discovered. Popular theory holds that if the trees are self aware, they must possess some sort of collective consciousness.
