Mulsutinnu
Mulsutinnu are hexapodal tree-dwelling rodents that resemble flying squirrels the size of ponies.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Mulsutinnu have six legs, each ending in a hand-like paw with small but sharp claws for climbing. They have growths of skin between each of these limbs that allow for short gliding. They lack a tail, but otherwise resemble common tree squirrels in all other ways.
Genetics and Reproduction
Mulsutinnu produce litters of seven to twelve pups, though in the wild the offspring are cannibalistic and the strongest will consume the weakest within hours of birth. The Mulsutinnu reproduce in a four-year cycle, only able to bear cubs once the last clutch is completely grown.
Ecology and Habitats
Mulsutinnu are native to the furthest reaches of The Darkwood, preferring the massive redwood trees of the region, which they live inside of by burrowing into the trunks and creating "apartments" in the tree. The oldest redwoods can hold colonies of eight or more Mulsutinnu.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Mulsutinnu are opportunistic omnivores. They are not scavengers, preferring live prey like large birds or deer. They are capable of crunching through most organic materials, including bone, and will eat the entire animal and have ever been known to lap up the blood afterwards.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Mulsutinnu are used by the Second Halfling Cavalry Legion as mounts in arboreal warfare.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Mulsutinnu have some of the best hearing in the realm of non-magical animals. They are able to accurately pinpoint movement within one hundred yards. This hearing is so exceptional that the beasts can be trained to warn a rider the size of the approaching foe.
