Imperium: The Watch Shall Answer For Their Own

General Summary

  • The morning after returning to Triumph following a mandatory vacation, officer Barry Greencrest, acting sargeant Morubash Bonefist, and special liason Ebnor Ironhjorn report for duty (following a quick stop for donuts at The Nook of course).
  • Literally no one asks where actual man-toddler Roxas is at any point this session
  • Everyone at the cop house is super happy for the return of Morubash and Barry and they pretend to be excited about Ebnor. There's one mood killer though: a pair of Imperial auditors! Captain Grimes warns the gang that they are especially interested in SI, as the department literally exists only to be fall guys.
  • The recruits of SI reveal that as soon as the party left on their trip, Sargeant Gerin and his wife also left and haven't come back yet. They've been watched by Lt. Chu from payroll and she's been sending them out on normal patrols. Due to Chu's influence, no SI specific cases have been shunted this way because the other cops fear her payroll powers. Tassa, who was Ebnor's guest on the airship, is acting strange and pretends like she was not in fact on that trip.
  • The auditors arrive and Barry hides. They congratulate Morubash for running such a tight ship and he is marked Trustworthy to the Crown.
  • SI gets a job. Apparently a magic circus has arrived and the gate guards want SI to handle it "because it's an unusual situation not covered by any single department"
  • Turns out their old pal Sargeant Gek'Koh has set them up because he doesn't want to deal with clowns. Fair enough. The circus in question is Jublinex' Traveling Carnival of Dreams, and they are charged to perform- 700 years ago by the 2nd Empire. This is weird. Barry fetches an army of paper pushers and disappears to his theater, where his dutiful manager Ms. Distella Stillhoof protects him from his own job.
  • Ebnor notices Tassa drinking on the job from a silver flask. Also, she again acts as though she was not on the trip and says that the last thing she remembers is passing out in front of her landlady, Vari Mildbluff. Weird. No time though, he convinces the army of carnies to set up in the Victory district, sparing North Ward from an army of clowns and creeps.
  • The gang meets for drinks at the Crown and Shield after work. The Crown and Shield (mostly called just The Shield) is the North Ward cop bar, basically. It's where most Watchmen and their partners go to relax after a long shift. They discuss Tassa's day drinking with Gripgup, who reveals that Tassa doesn't drink at all. Which is weird because she's currently staggering. Barry invisibles and sneaks over, and realizes that her "Virgin Sex on the Beach" has been spiked with heavy booze. He steals the flask. Turns out it's goblin moonshine, and Gripgup might know who manufactures it. Also, Tassa's conversation with her roommate and coworker Goblinoid 4890-B6 are mostly the hobgoblin asking "Girl what the fuck" and Tassa deflecting. Barry, having had enough of this shit, uses magic to make everyone go home. Morubash heads back to Alicel and Barry and Ebnor follow B6 carrying Tassa back to their place by the death temple.
  • The pair knock and are let in. B6 had administered some purgative or another and Tassa is puking her insides right out, which probably saved her life. A brief interview later and it becomes apparent that Tassa fully believes that she has not been drinking. Some magic, and it turns out that she was given the flask by Vari and must protect it.
  • A goblin knocks on Morubash's window and says he can't find Barry and needs to deliver a message. Morubash takes it to Barry. Alicel looks at that goblin that interrupted her. He is never seen again.
  • The paper describes an order placed with the Goblin moonshiners for "the most addictive booze you can make" by some "red-headed lady dressed like a pirate". Welp, that's a Vari. Ebnor postulates that Gnomes are more suceptible to addiction than most folks because once they like something they commit to it impulsively. Therefore, whoever gave Tassa the booze is a murderer, or at least an attempted one. Morubash goes home. Barry heads to the Temple of Randeus for an enchantment breaker. Ebnor meets Freecloud and Mistrider and buys some shit. After explaining it's an emergency and life or death, Alicel lets Morubash leave again after Aaron tries to sabotage himself out of the session.
  • One enchantment breaker later, and Tassa's mind is still wiped but her geas has been removed. The geas compelled her to deflect all questions and drink from the flask. We left off with the gang calling in the Watch, as this is now the domain of Purposeful Magic.
