Cloudfall

Cloudfall is a large city in The Darkwood that sits on a crossroads south of Loch Mogthir. The city was built from the ruins of the fallen Speiryi city of Mogthir Wyn. It is the seat of power for the Garthel family, and the capital of County Mogthir in the central Darkwood.

Infrastructure

Cloudfall is full of ruined structures, some high above others and some deep below the ground. As such, the main level of the city is connected by The Cloudway, a series of roads built on arches to link massive buildings with no ground entrances. The Underway is a series of tunnels that does the same below the earth, and The Skyway connects the tops of the tallest buildings. Messages are sent via Skitterfoxes, which are a common sight in the city. The animals' ability to climb buildings makes them swift, efficient messenger beasts.

History

In the aftermath of the Sylvan War, the absence of Speiryi cloudmages left their floating cities unable to continue flying. All but one of the sky cities fell to the ground, mostly ruined forever. What is now Cloudfall, however, avoided much damage, and it didn't take long for the city to be repopulated. It was given to the Garthel family by Skaldor himself in recognition of their service to the fledgling Empire.
