Bardic Magic
There are many different kinds of magic in Illiria, and many more sources of such powers. The most common types of magic in order are bardic, arcane, divine, psionic, and wild.
Bardic magic is often thought to be created entirely by music, but in actuality bardic magic is power drawn from the collected potential of all mortalkind, in the same way that divine magic is granted by belief in a higher power or arcane magic is pulled from the remnants of creation energy. Any mortal with enough willpower is capable of performing feats of bardic magic, and many of those become the spellcasters known by most as bards. Bardic magic is more easily controlled and utilized with a performance of some kind of art, usually music.
The standard wild manifestation of bardic magic is extraordinary luck, or mortals against all odds performing nearly impossible feats. Accidental use of bardic magic appears to be almost entirely random.
When Bards utilize the standard manifestation of Bardic magic, it is known as a "performance", and this directs chaotic Bardic energy to enhance the abilities of those who witness the performance and the casting Bard considers an ally. When using a Performance in this way through the medium of a musical instrument or creating a physical piece of art, the Bard is free to use their hands on other activities, such as casting spells, as some Bardic energy will be directed to cause the performance tool to continue to work by itself.
