Power

The Esmarian Army is the largest in Kapira, vastly outnumbering the second largest army of the Claria Kingdom to the East, and the third largest army of the combined arms of the Hem Faldihr Coalition to the south. The Esmarian Empire used to have a much fuzzier command structure but after the previous ruler Lucio Topas died and failed to produce an heir, her excellency Empress Celia LeFer Esmaria naturally took charge of the power hierarchy and transformed it into the the great systemized structure that exists today.

Structure

The Esmarian Army is under direct control of the emperor and his closest military advisors. The army is built around the Celestial corps, consisting of around 35'000 soldiers, further divided into the Solar, Lunar and Stellar divisions. Each division commands roughly 11'000 soldiers.

Arm and division operations

The Army provides the combatant commander with an interlocking array of higher headquarters trained and equipped to apply land power from the solider level, through the operational level, and down to the tactical employment of various brigades, groups, and battalions. Together the corps and division give the combatant commander several options necessary for the employment of land power in an interdependent joint force.

The Celestial Corps

The Celestial corps is the deployable level of command required to synchronize and sustain combat operations and provides the framework for multinational operations. The Esmarian Army's Celestial corps consists of all of the Solar, Lunar and Stellar divisions, and is spread over the entirety of the Esmarian Empire. The task of the corps is to provide control, command and logistical support the the member divisions.

The Three Divisions

The three divisions of Esmaria performs major tactical operations and conduct sustained battles and engagements and consists of 3 or more brigades (10'000 to 16'000 soldiers). The commanding unit of a division consists of a major general or lieutenant general assisted by two principal brigadier generals who perform duties as assistant division commanders (1 for maneuver and 1 for support) and a command sergeant major is the principal officer assistant.

Brigade

A brigade is the largest military unit that can be employed on independent or semi-independent operations. They consist of 3 or more battalions (1500-3200 soldiers) and are used exclusively for warfare or large scale area control. A brigade is usually categorized as either cavalry, infantry, ranged or siege. A brigade is commanded by a brigadier general and has a sergeant major as the principal officer assistant.

Battalion

A battalion is the go to formation for attack groups, consisting of 3 to 5 companies (300-1000 soldiers), and are often used as a specific group of military allowing stronger formations to be made. A battalion is commanded by a colonel or higher with a sergeant major as the principal officer assistant.

Company

A company is the default size for small troops and are often stationed at encampments and forts, securing important locations and defending towns. The company is supervised by an officer of rank captain or higher, and consists of 3 to 5 platoons (60-200 soldiers). A first sergeant is the commander's principal assistant. Company headquarters are the center points of communication between platoons.

Platoon

A platoon is a collection of 2 to 4 squads (16-44 soldiers) and is commanded by a lieutenant and assisted by a sergeant first class. A platoon is often sent on scouting and surveillance missions as well as quick captures and retrievals, but will very seldom settle down in forts or encampments alone.

Squad

A squad is a small group of 2 to 3 teams (8-16 soldiers) overwatched by a staff sergeant or higher. A squad is used to strategize and delegate information and plans to its member teams.

Team

A team is a small group consisting of 4 soldiers, of which a Sergeant or higher is in charge. Teams are the smallest combat groups in the Army. They only exist as a small cooperative unit to maximize communication and efficiently move and will seldom be formed during war, for which larger groups of soldiers are needed.

Ranks

There is a plethora of ranks in the Esmarian Army, highly motivated by the empires hierarchical structure, and is divided into 2 categories.

The Enlisted Ranks

Enlisted Soldiers are the backbone of the Army. They have specific specialties within an Army unit, perform specific job functions and have the knowledge that ensures the success of their unit's current mission within the Army.

The Officer Ranks

Commissioned officers are the managers, problem solvers, key influencers and planners who lead enlisted Soldiers in all situations. They plan missions, give orders and assign Soldiers tasks.
