The world was broken long ago... and a long time from now. Otherworldly energy, known to some as the of the Chords, permeates the fabric of the world itself. Magic, a relatively uncommon, but known aspect of the world has been changed by a force outside of time, and perhaps outside of our known universe.   A pivot point in history, sending out echoes both forward and backward in time - the Atseinia. The fortold cataclysm changed the nature of the universe, with Eventyr as the impact point for forces beyond the visible dimension. Rumored to be objects, or even concepts, from a universe beyond, they became known by some scholars as the Three Chords.   Relative peace has been tentative across the world. New magics lead to new sciences, and new understandings of how reality can be shaped. In some societies, this can mean sudden prosperity, and a wealth of new technologies to make lives better across empires. In other realms, this can mean a breakdown of society as a whole - war, within and from without. Powerful individuals manifest strange new magics, and the world itself bends under the weight of change. Some forces exist to maintain the order - a loose cooperation of gods and other powerful entities. That said, there are often those that seek to cause chaos, even (and sometimes especially) if it means the destruction of all civilization.
