Vayloth of Dammun
Vayloth was once a golden greatwyrm, having been specially picked by Dammun to spread his knowledge with greater wisdom than any other dragon. Vayloth may have been the wisest creature to ever exist, apart from the gods. She was the first full dragon to be created by the gods, a mixture of a great piece of each god's powers granted to her, and the greatest piece of Dammun. It is said that each of her scales could grant enough knowledge to fill massive libraries, though she granted very few.
Vayloth founded the first civilization in all of Eventide, helping sentient races construct a massive city on the continent now known as Vayloth's Maw. This once great civilization came to be known as the Sunstrand, named after the radiance of Vayloth's scales. Watching Vayloth fly overhead was described to be a beautiful streak of golden lambence, shining to give brilliant light to all the city. Five of Vayloth's scales were given to mortals, these five becoming the cooperative leaders of Sunstrand. If they sought advice, they would ask their questions of Vayloth. All important factors were given to Vayloth to decide, leading to a prosperous age.
However, a myth soon arose of dragons travelling around a massive column of light. This light was said to emerge from what is now known as the Dragon's Spire. According to the myth, Vayloth was among these dragons, leaving roost of Sunstrand and leading the encirclement. While this myth has no witnesses, few details, and even fewer accounts, Vayloth was not seen in Sunstrand after the tale took root.
The many peoples of Sunstrand began to fear, losing the great spirit that had show them their path to advancement. With no consul of a dragon, mortals began to fall into disrest. Those who held the Scales fell into disagreement, beginning quarrels with one another. Eventually, they split into factions, each with different ideals and politics. These factions travelled across the world, forming into the large kingdoms of today. One scale was sent to the Snow Swallow Woods, one was sent to Tharon Tald'oara, one to Easlias, one to Ylati, and the last remained in Vayloth's Maw. They each took different shapes, new ideals, and individualized politics.
In the case of the Snow Swallow Woods, their Scale was given for research, and allowed access to only those of the highest honour. For Tharon Tald'oara, their scale was sought after during the tribal periods, becoming a large part of the cause for the combats. In the case of Easlias, the Scale was embedded into the crown of Calron's king, which has been passed down the bloodline to modern day. The Scale of Ylati was given to the monarchs of Teuqram, who built it into the great hall of their palace. The final Scale was lost to time, likely buried in the snows of the Kinenet Tundra.
As for what was left of the Sunstrand, it continued to function well for a time. Alas, without the guidance of Vayloth, it succumbed to disrepair. It continued to be a liveable kingdom, however, well enough to house those who wished to stay. That is, until the Snow Swallow Invasion finally came.
During the Snow Swallow Invasion, the Sunstrand was left utterly defenceless, lacking both its dragon and its Scale. When the Aberrations finally arrived, they could do nothing but wait. Vayloth's Maw was completely surrounded by the Dark Armada within hours, any attempts to sail to safety were met with crews sinking to the seafloor. No survivors were found, though the Aberrations did not attempt to take the island for their own. Every piece of what made the Sunstrand the great kingdom, home to so many, was stripped away into a shallow, husk of a wasteland.
What sets Vayloth's Maw apart from the other attacks was the raw damage that was dealt. An entire chunk of the continent was wiped off the face of the map, and not a single life was later recovered. However, unlike the Snow Swallow Woods, these lands can still be travelled to. While fiercely cold and unforgiving, these lands have still been sailed to and fro since the Invasion. The Snow Swallow Woods continue to consume any explorers outrageous enough to seek it, while Vayloth's Maw is simply left lifeless.
Many explorers and archaeologists have travelled through the now Kinenet Tundra, stumbling across ruins and fragments of the buried city. Yet, there are still none who have found the Scale that was left within the Sunstrand. Nor have explorers been able to locate the palace or Vayloth's resting chambers, merely stumbling across housing and ancient artworks. Some have even began to doubt Vayloth's existence, claiming that Calron's Scaled Crown is fake, as there are no others found in modern times.
