Dragons

Esphyre Laedi was once full of dragons, likely millions of wise creatures who passed their wisdom to today’s races. They learned much more quickly, and were partially imbued with the power of the gods, effectively demigods. As such, they could bend their surroundings to their will, able to use magic and alter their bodies to produce elemental breaths and such unique effects. They were the first creation of the gods to inhabit Aeyaar, formed to oversee that all the gods’ creations stay in check. Each of the dragons were imbued with power directly related to one of the gods, though they were distributed to different realms when Aeyaar was destroyed. Dragons of each god were placed into different realms to maintain some form of balance between the domains. That is, all but dragons of Pandemon. These dragons have never really been seen even before the Aberrations attacked, and it is unlikely that they were all placed within Limbo while the others were scattered.
It is said that the dragons in Eventide were once numerous, able to blot out the sunlight of Vayloth’s Maw, if they chose. However, this is likely a hyperbolized account, and the dragons have never encircled the continent. This gaugement is likely based on a myth in which all dragons of Eventide congregated around the Dragon’s Spire after a massive pillar of light burst into the sky from its base. What happened afterward is unknown, as is the meaning of the light.
The dragons were the ones who created the more animalistic races, such as tabaxi, kenku, lizardfolk, etc. as well as goblinoids. When the Aberrations enshrouded Thaekrin, many creatures lost their sentience, transforming into cheetahs, corvids, lizards, etc. as seen today. Even the dragons were heavily affected, some transforming into modern dragonborn. Many dragons sacrificed a large portion of their power for other creatures’ sake, so that they could retain their sentience; this act resulted in the dragonborn. Dragonborn have lost their deep connection to the gods because of this, though some still cling to faith in order to attempt to rebuild their power. Remaining dragons are few in number, especially within Eventide.
