The Body of the Great Eith

The Body of the Great Eith is the mummified form of the corpse of the prophet Eitherion III, also known as the Great Eith. After his death, the Great Eith was sealed in a carefully crafted stone coffin and placed in a cave of the Crescent of Heaven. Twenty years later, the cave partially collapsed, destroying the original stone coffin and revealing the body of the Great Eith. It was then discovered that his corpse had not rotted, but was preserved through dessication.   The place where the Great Eith had been interred was cleared out and reconstructed to become the Tombs of the Sonoderi. Meticulous study was made of the Body of the Great Eith, including a series of detailed sketches. One of these sketches was later leaked to the public resulting in the commonly known symbol of the Hand of the Great Eith. A mould was made of the Body, and from that mould they fashioned a golden effigy to lie upon the lid of the repaired coffin. After that, the Body of the Great Eith was returned to the coffin and sealed into the newly constructed Tombs.   Despite public outcry, the Sonoderi refuse the share any further images or effigies of the Great Eith. Even renowned scholars are turned away. Only members of the Houses of Descendants and their Guardians are allowed to set foot inside the Tombs.

Significance

The preservation of the body of Eitherion III is viewed as confirmation of his divinity and power. Lord Amalorn claimed that it was the fulfilment of the Last Prophesy, and that the mummified corpse was the vessel for Zetzwarian's rebirth. This theory was discarded as madness after Lord Amalorn's death, and it was only ever briefly considered in theological circles.
