The Holy Roman Empire

The Holy Roman Empire often unofficially referred to as the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, is a multi-ethnic complex of territories in Western and Central Europe that developed during the Early Middle Ages and lasts to today.

Structure

The vast majority of the power of the empire lays with the independent states that make it up, but the nominal power is in the hands of the electors and the emperor.

Agriculture & Industry

Wheat and sugar beets are staples grown throughout the empire, while some specialty plant are grown by the smaller states like rye, oats, and fodder beets. The majority of agricultural lands are used for cereal cultivation and permanent cow pastures.
Some three-tenths of the total land area is covered with forest. In the Central German Uplands and the Alps, forests are particularly plentiful, but they are notably not the best agricultural land.
People along the coasts of the North sea and the Baltic sea have made a robust fishing industry exporting it in and around the empire.

The northern German trade is chiefly based on staple commodities such as grain, fish, salt, and metals; but the southern German merchants, in their capacity as middlemen between Italy and the rest of Europe.

Trade & Transport

The Hanseatic League is a federation of north German towns and cities formed around 200 years ago to facilitate trade and protect mutual interests. The league is centered in the German town of Lübeck and includes other German principalities and has established trade centers ranging from Novgorod through the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and Britain.
