The Doge in Genoa once rained over a large variety of lands stretching from the north of Italy to Crimea. However by 1556 they had lost all non-Italian holdings. Holding on to the area along the north coast of the Ligurian Sea from Massa to Sanreno. In addition to this they maintain a claim to Corsica which is contested by France.
Military
Genoa has a professional navy made up of 37 ships 16 merchant ships, 14 galleys, and 7 Transport ships. Most ships are outfitted with ballista with only a hand full sporting gunpowder cannons.
Religion
Majority of the population is Christian with small communities of Jews and Muslims in port cities. People are free to worship freely in the republic.
Foreign Relations
Genoa has poor relations with other trade powers on the Italian peninsula. They all compete with each other economically attempting to secure more trade deals than the rest.
Agriculture & Industry
Large sections of a Genoa and Albenga are dedicated to ship building, and specialized in galley construction. Another large chunk of Genoese industry is centered around the manufacture of navel equipment, anything from a rope or anchor to a sail or a mast.
Trade & Transport
Genoese traders buy salt from around the Mediterranean to sell to local meat producers to make salami. They then sell the salami in southern Italy for raw silk, which is sold in Lucca for fabrics, which is then sold to Lyon.
