The Winged Peoples

Origins

Contrary to previous beliefs The Winged Peoples of the Great Forests didn't originate with wings but developed them. Winged people developed from another category of humanoids but as of right now which one is unkown and wildly speculated.   The exact time and whereabouts of the split from their predecessor is unknown but the geographic location of the split is believed to have occurred somewhere in the south-eastern parts of the great forests.

Development of Wings

The wings were originally an extra set of arms located behind the usual set, which might have started by a genetic muatation of sorts and is widely considered to have been a gift from Eunoia.   Living in the great forests jumping between trees to escape the large predators living there would have been a common occurance, and developing a skin membrane stretching between the torso and the wrist on the back arms making it possible to glide from tree to tree would most certainly have been adventageous. With this newly developed skin membrane the survival rate rose and the gliding also increased successes with hunting.   The fingers grew longer and developed skin memrane between them making it possible to glide even longer and eventually the arms would be classified as wings as they became cabeble of sustained flight.

Genetics

Though it's highly heritable there has been instances where a child with two winged parents was born wingless without a trace of wings. In the case of one winged and one wingless parent the child might either be winged like normal, be wingless with no trace of wings, or somewhere in between like being wingless with traces of wings or having wings that are too small to keep airborne.   If a child has one winged parent and one wingless it is more likely for the child to be winged and the likelihood is even higher if the mother is the winged one, and though they are a mix of both parents the wings of the child often look more alike to those of the mother than of the father.
