The Raiji Shogunate

The country of Raiji (雷の王国; lightning kingdom), also known as the Raiji Shogunate, is an ancient land of tradition, mysticism, discipline, and vast natural beauty that is currently embroiled in a civil war between its seven shogun who each are vying to expand their prefectures and take control of the nation.

Structure

Typically, the country was ruled by an emperor or empress who was decided by birthright of their current dynasty, however currently the nation is in a civil war where the seven shogun of the former emperor now each control a district of the land, though their control is constantly shifting as they gain and lose ground to their competitors. Each district is under martial law, meaning that the military holds absolute power, with each town or city falling under the jurisdiction of the presiding shogun.

Shoguns

The following shogus are in power in Raiji:
  • Nobunaga Orochi - LE Human man, untrusting and conniving, trusts only his closest officers and advisors. Known to make alliances only when they favor him.
  • Norayomi Kaiden - CE Human man, building an army of spellcasters to overwhelm his foes.
  • Shugeki Tenchi - LN Half-elf man, a fierce loyalist to the former empire, and a strong adherent to the old traditions.
  • Isshoi Tsubota - CG Half-kitsune woman, a bit of an anarchist, believes in protecting the natural world and eliminating prejudice against the mystical races.
  • Hanadouji Meitan - NG Elf woman, a reformist who believes in abolishing the old empire and creating a democratic form of government.
  • Taikoyama Kutabo - N Dwarf man, a former carpenter and blacksmith who worked his way up the ranks as a soldier. Sometimes known as a champion of the common folk, but fiercely protective of his own self-interests.

History

Since ancient times, Raiji has passed ownership between various dynasties, with the Kaminari dynasty being the most recent. While each emperor or empress had their own agendas, the country mostly followed philosophies of honor, mysticism, and a unique kind of nature worship that preserved their natural assets. Up until a few decades ago, Raiji was ruled by its emperor, Kaminari Denji. However, when one of the emperor's shoguns, Nobunaga Orochi, assassinated the emperor, the nation fell into a chaotic civil war, with each shogun attempting to amass power and unite the country once more under his own rule.
