The Slayer Character in Eulea | World Anvil

The Slayer

Killer of Gods

The Slayer. The Killer of Gods. Lady of Blood. The third and, currently, last Living God strikes fear into the hearts of almost every living being in the world and for good reason. Immediately after becoming a Living God her first act was to slay the True God Oros, her patron, in cold blood, a task which was once considered impossible by God and mortal alike. Ascending during the brutal Grand War, the Slayer proceeded to feed off the chaos and destruction, killing heroes and burning cities without care. She acts as an assassin, taking on contracts seemingly at a whim while also causing the greatest amount of chaos as she can in the process, attracting the mad and brutal as followers and shaping them into a terrifying force raving lunatics all bound by her whims. While she lost standing during her defeat at the Siege of Oshen and vanished deep into the Lost Continent all nations fear the day her attentions once more bring her back to the civilised world. For when she does, death will follow.

Personal history

Of all the Living Gods, the Slayer is the most secretive about her past. The only solid information is that a young Slayer was merely a child when she witnessed the Cataclysm directly. Whether or not this awoke the madness within her or she was always inclined towards that is not known but she showed a complete lack of empathy or care towards the world or its inhabitants. It is believed that she worked as an assassin for most of her life, becoming an Immortal purely to kill more and more. By the time she took the Final Trial, she was already feared for her success rate even against the most powerful and seemingly unkillable foes and was personally responsible for killing at least five of the Saints of the Empire.   Upon ascension to become the Third Living God, the Slayer met with her patron deity Oros before her return to the material plane. Whereas all other Living Gods quickly aligned themselves with their patron, the mad god and his Slayer instead fought each other to the death. To this day no being can explain how the Slayer managed to kill Oros, such a thing seemed impossible even to the Gods and yet it happened anyway. The Multiverse was in shock, one of the four who had created it had perished. Panic spread all the way through the Outer Planes through to the war torn Material Plane. The Killer of Gods had been born and the people cried out in fear of what would happen next. And the Slayer loved it.   Returning to the Material Plane she quickly took advantage of the Emperor and Wanderer's absence, dominating the war wherever she went. She fought for all sides, gathering followers and spreading chaos as she went, seemingly in order to extend and intensify the war and the destruction it was causing. Soon her cult was large enough that she no longer even had to pick a side, appearing on battlefield after battlefield to massacre all forces she could find. While she lacked the martial prowess and tactical genius of the Emperor and could not match the physical power and inspiring presence of the Wanderer, the Slayer had turned brutality into an art form and all cities quaked in fear at the merest trace of her in the area. All except one.   Oshen had survived the majority of the horrors of the Grand War, protected by an immense shield and its own neutrality, and its citizens had not experienced enough suffering for the Slayer's liking. Marshalling her forces away from the main war efforts on a personal vendetta against what could be considered the last bastion of stability in the world, she prepared to bring down the mighty city. For an entire year the city held her at bay, her forces unable to get through the mighty defences except for the smallest raiding groups. Only through her own personal intervention and a huge display of power would the city's shields fall and the true battle begin. The battle would be a disaster for the cult, although much of the city burned almost 80% of the Slayer's forces died in the battle as the very city had been turned into a deathtrap against them. Even worse the Slayer, in a confrontation with Oshen's Arbiter, had been laid low by a mere tier two Immortal. Just as no one knew how she killed a God, no one could explain how she came to be defeated either. And so her reign of terror ended the same way as it had began.   Shamed and beaten, the Slayer retreated to the Lost Continent where what remained of her cult built a domain under her control. While she has remained locked away in her lands ever since, her cult still operates in the rest of the world as assassins for hire, emulating their master to the best of their abilities. No one knows why they take the contracts they do, but many suspect it to be all part of the Slayer's new plan to bring about a new age of destruction so she can return to lay waste to the world once more.
