Mymos Character in Eulea | World Anvil

Mymos

God of Trickery

The Trickster. The Bard of Fate. Mymos was the youngest of all the Demigods in contrast to his elder sibling Eris and is often regarded as one of the least influential as a result of this and his own carefree nature. Unlike his counterpart, now only known as the Unspoken, Mymos took dominion over the border regions of the Maelstrom, enjoying the interactions of the other Planes too much to dedicate himself to the purest forms of chaos and his playful games often end up being more frustrating than damaging for others. Despite his attitudes Mymos has the greatest understanding of mortalkind and is often the Demigod who is most seen as kin by said mortals which is a view that he shares in turn. He greatly enjoys travelling the planes and interacting with their inhabitants and is the only Demigod who regularly visits every Plane and God. Wherever he goes he plays awe-inspiring songs, tells epic tales and encourages all to have a good time which unfortunately is often followed by disaster in the form of epic storms. Whether or not he causes these tragic events or simply knows where they will occur is still unknown to this day and he never reveals such secrets willingly.

Personal history

When Mymos was created all the other Demigods were old and from the moment of his birth not much was expected of him as the others had already explored the limits of their capabilities. That would soon change. Mymos was fearless from birth, born to bridge the gap between Nemera and her youngest sibling, Oros, who were not always able to see eye to eye. One of his first actions therefore lead to him deceiving and messing with Oros directly, a being that most of the Demigods actively avoided out of fear of his legendary temper. While many expected the worst when his actions were revealed, Oros merely laughed at the audacity of the younger God. The Trickster had been acknowledged and from that point on it was something he revelled in. His antics across the Multiverse, while often annoying to other Gods, provided a source of amusement and entertainment for Nemera and Oros and they secretly both encouraged and praised Mymos for his creativity (although Nemera would stress that his actions much remain harmless else he risk punishment). Many Gods would develop a love/hate relationship with the youngest deity for while he was very annoying he also made family life exciting for them.   With each new creation Mymos tried newer and newer tricks and would always be the first to discover exploits and flaws in everything that existed. He was soon used as a tester of sorts, manipulating and investigating the Angels, the Inner Planes and even mortals as they were all formed. His constant meddling allowed him to insert his own sense of humour into the mortal psyche which lead to even more chaos and excitement as the world grew and developed. Despite all this he would soon learn that not all forms of chaos were fun as the outbreak of the Angelic Civil War lead to bloodshed and despair. Mymos could not stand this serious and heavy handed matter and lamented that the light-hearted nature of the world may have been lost forever. This mentality was only further cemented when Oros finally became enraged with one of Mymos' pranks and wounded him in way that left a permanent scar. The disrupted mind of a God lead to the creation a vast planar storm to form in his wake, one which follows him to this day. These events lead Mymos to abandon most interactions with Gods, favouring the company of mortals and lesser beings and even the end of hostilities in the Outer Planes did not convince him to return.   Mymos would continue to travel, seeking only to have fun and entertain others in the process. He loved the adulation mortals would show his performances and encouraged many others to follow his example, gathering followers everywhere he went. No matter how much he loved a place or tried to influence things eventually war, disaster or other events would inevitable drive him to move on, always vanishing just before the event in question. Sometimes these would be events that had naturally been building up but other times he simply remained in one spot too long, inviting the disaster by his mere presence. The death of Oros lead to mixed feelings from the Demigod who both lamented the serious loss of a family member while also relieved the threat of Oros' temper had finally passed. Still he realised that the loss to his family was greater and so he returned to his place in the Maelstrom and reduced his visits to the Inner Planes as he focused on family matters instead. While he is rarely seen anymore many places still tell tales of a bard who arrives in a town threatened by disaster, bringing one last night of merriment and fun before the end.

Intellectual Characteristics

Mymos is variable and mysterious, his opinions changing on a day to day basis without rhyme or reason. Sometimes he is a kindly helper bringing joy and delight and in others he disrupts and manipulates others for his own amusement. He is as likely to be helpful as he is to be detrimental although he never actively intends harm and often views his behaviour as a "learning experience" for others.

Morality & Philosophy

To exist is meaningless without having a little fun along the way.

Motivation

To have fun and bring as many along for the ride as possible.

Likes & Dislikes

Social

Family Ties

Mymos is the child of Nemera, younger sibling of Eris and older sibling of the Angels. He maintains very little contact with his family, with the exception of Nemera, and much prefers to be with his own followers and other mortals. He does however enjoy pranking his relatives from time to time with mixed reception from the more serious Gods.

Speech

His voice is playful and mocking in equal measure. His ever word a distraction, every intent concealed in layers of conflicting messages. To some he is the most charismatic being in the world and to others he is the most annoying.
