Aedos Character in Eulea | World Anvil

Aedos

God of Life

The Final Guide. The Guardian of Eternal Life. Aedos is the God that represents eternal life and enlightenment. As Eris waits to start a soul’s journey to enlightenment so does Ados wait at the end of the journey. His messengers seek to guide both the dead and the living and he takes responsibility for all souls that have earned a place in the celestial planes. He views his godhood as a service in the name of both his father and the multiverse as a whole so he takes this role very seriously. He is the most distant when it comes to mortal affairs, concerning himself only with the afterlife and the balance of souls in the multiverse and while many consider him aloof he is actually quite benevolent and always willing to offer second chances to those who have the potential.

Personal history

Aedos was created by Tyrarr as the younger of his Demigods out of a perceived need to fill a role that complemented that of Eris in the celestial order. From the very moment of his birth he knew that his role was to stand with Eris and together they would bring truth and enlightenment to all beings in the multiverse. Much like Eris he acted as a guide to others and while she would often give compassionate advice, to inspire the spirits of the weary and lost, he would tell them what they needed to hear regardless of whether they were capable of accepting his guidance. Because of this he always stood in the shadow of his counterpart but such concepts never bothered him for he knew that only together could they do what needed to be done. Aedos was responsible for forging the spirit of mortals during the Gods' grand experiment and he is therefore responsible for the creation of what we now consider to be the soul.   As events such as the Angelic Civil War caused chaos in the planes, Aedos decided to create a bastion of peace and reflection for those who grew weary of war. He never sought to interfere or prevent as Eris did for he knew that not only were such actions futile but that the only way for things to end would be if they did so of their own accord rather than through external pressure. By focusing on creating sanctuaries Aedos believed that, assuming peace would naturally return, they would allow the world to recover faster in the aftermath. Despite this he mourned the loss of so many beings who could now never reach their own form of enlightenment which only helped to cement his desire to guide and advise any who would ask for his help. With the end of the war, brought about via a peaceful resolution, Aedos felt vindicated as his choices would actively help to secure the stability brought about by the peace.   Aedos would continue his work in a more distant fashion from then on, choosing to not just act as a guide but to also act as an enforcer of the rules of death. He and his followers would ensure that no worthy soul would ever be snatched from their reward so long as he was there to help them reach it. While Eris became a being that would start a soul's journey to enlightenment he would be the one who made sure that they could finish it without interference or threat. His dedication to his work would become so great that he would be one of the few to advise against interfering with the Slayer after the death of Oros for he believed it was not their place to judge the path others willingly took. While he still maintains a more distant approach than Eris, Aedos still occasionally chooses to manifest in the material plane when some vital decision needs to be made, providing impartial advice and nothing more.

Intellectual Characteristics

While distant Aedos is actually a very compassionate being with a vast amount of understanding and wisdom that simply prefers to be as impartial as possible in his role. He prides himself on his work and methods and while more than happy to share advice and guidance he always does so in such a way that the final choice will always belong to the being he is counselling.
