Patuljak

Demographics

The population is made up primarily of Over-Dwarves, and Humans. Some of the minorities include Under-Dwarves, Svirfneblin, Goliaths, Rock Gnomes, and Drow.

Government

This city-state is run by a council elected by the citizenry of each of the cities rings. These 27 councillors are elected once every 10 years, and must reside on the ring they represent. These individuals answer to the Arbiter General of the city, who is the appointed by the council and serves for the same period as the council. The Arbiter General sits on the Fourth Dwarven throne.

Defences

The top most ring of the city is fortified with a low stone wall, which has one gate and many square towers. The walls are manned by the city's army. The Gate to the Underdark is also fortified.

Industry & Trade

The city primarily exports mithril, silver, and especially gold; however it also operates as a major trade partner for the Underdark.

Infrastructure

The four lower rings contain many different mining operations.   The centre of the city is an open shaft with many fans and elevators set up in it.

Assets

Since this city is one of the Great Dwarven cities, it's upper echelon of citizenry seek precious stones and rare items, and they all go to the Royal Appraisers to buy these objects. They will buy rare items and precious metals for fair prices, and sell them for a small profit.   Planina Artisans (aka the Mountain Artisans) have their headquarters in the city, and it is a sight to behold. The guildhall is very close to the Galleries of Splendour, and reflects the rich culture they possess. The college trains artists of all varieties, including bards, painters, sculptures, and dancers.   One tavern and inn that's a favourite for locals and traveller's alike is Waste's Edge Bed. The drinks here are sharp and strong, and the tavern commonly has local players perform. The inn attached is of fair quality.   Bopplebeard’s Stock is the most expansive and diverse general stores in the city. The store has all variety of goods, both common and not, and typically adventurers can find what they need at this store.

Tourism

The bottom ring of the city houses the Entrance to Underdark, a large granite gatehouse that protects the path to the Underdark. It is heavily guarded at all hours, as many dangerous beasts attempt to raid the city on a regular basis. The gatehouse has two portcullis' and a large set of doors made of iron and steel. These doors depict the history of the city.   Patuljak is where the Fourth Dwarven Throne - aka the Seat of the Gold Keeper or Throne of the Fourth Dwarf Lord - resides. The throne is an ornately forged seat of gold, silver, and mithril. The Arbiter General sits on this throne, as this Dwarven city rejected kings during the early days of the age of Reticence.   Leading up to the throne of the Fourth Dwarf Lord is a grand hall, known as the Galleries of Splendour. This expansive throne hall is full of many spectacular pieces of art, both Dwarven and not. Artists from across Shyrin come here to see the work of masters, as the city buys masterpieces from the four corners of the world.   The city of Patuljak is the location of the Vault of the Seven Knots, the primary gold reserve of the seven Dwarven kingdoms. It is a massive horde of gold, treasure, and magic items that these kingdoms have built up over the ages. It is rumoured that a metallic dragon guards this vault.

Architecture

All structures have an air of prestige, and nothing is left "unpolished". They are made primarily of carved granite, as well as lime-mortar and clay from the local turf. It is inline with Khorasani style of Persian architecture.

Geography

Located in the foothills of the Slomljnure Sierras, the city consists of 27 layers. The top most layer is surrounded by hills blanketed with dry shrub lands. The rest has been constructed in the rock layers beneath. The lowest ring is just above the Fractal Divide, and has a gate that leads to the Underdark.

Natural Resources

The city extracts several veins of mithril and silver from the mountain's roots, but gold is the most common resource that the city exploits.
