The world of Ettariel is a world of metal, stone, and strange plant life. Magical particles flow through the air like background radiation and produces strange and chaotic effects on the biological life of the planet. Here, mankind struggles against a harsh and unforgiving landscape that threatens to pull apart the very fabric of their societies on a daily basis.   In the distant past, before the dawning of mankind, there existed a race known as the nym. The nym were unique in the sense that they weren't exactly alive, they were both flesh and machine. They plumbed the depths of magic and science, and built for themselves a vast civilization. However, despite their advanced technology and their might, they vanished almost overnight paving the way for man to pick up the pieces of their empire.   Mankind fashioned itself a foot hold in the old nym cities and began its squabbles over the remaining technology. This was a millennium before the rise of the Magocratic government called the Gods of the New World, a group of 72 mages who ruled humanity from on high as gods. Under their rule, magic was subject to strict control and they would use their knowledge of the nym's technology and spell craft to control the population. But it was that same technology that became their downfall. They began to fear death, and using a device named the Heart of Halcyon, they lengthened their own lives at the cost of two thirds of the human population. After the first use of the Heart, the mages rebuilt society in their own image. Magic became possible only for those select few chosen, and those few proceeded to rule the world. For a time humanity became prosperous and old technologies were rediscovered and new technologies were invented to make lives easier. However, it wasn't meant to last. Almost 800 years later, multiple members of the Gods of the New World began to fear impending death again and so they sought once more to use the Heart of Halcyon to extend their own lives. However Jonn Halcyon, the Hearts original creator, hid it away before the others could use it again. He then gave orders to his second greatest accomplishments, the Dolls, to bring destruction to the human race. Dolls who were once docile servants of man, began to slaughter their human masters in vast numbers for the god who invented them. Humans rose up and, in defiance to their gods' wills, unleashed the apocalypse. Meggidos, bombs of terrible destructive power, were detonated all across the world. In a single night of fire and smoke, the world as it was known ended.   It has been over 500 years since that terrible night, and humanities numbers are now a fraction of what they once were. Their power is fractured among 8 separate countries and the Gods of the New World now cling to what little power and time that they have left. But one day, a young girl with strange powers appears; carrying upon her person a map and key to some great treasure of the past. A treasure that the leaders of Carellion Empire pursue doggedly. Who is this girl? What secrets does she possess? And will she and her allies be able to take it before the Empire's soldiers capture and kill her? Discover the mysteries of this place and this girl in "From the Glades of Ettariel."
