Abjuration

The School of Abjuration encompasses spells used to protect and safeguard the caster, as well as those used to foil both the physical and magical abilities of an opponent. These can be accomplished in any number of ways, with protection being as simple as raising a force field of energy to shield the caster from an attack, or warding a creature against attacks made by extraplanar creatures, while the disabling can be something as complex as dismantling a magical effect as its being cast, or picking it apart while its currently in effect..
Abjurer is the title given to a mage who chooses to specialize in this field of magic, and particularly proficient wizards can use the latent magical energy from spells within this school to protect themselves from minor damage, or even others if they continue to grow in strength. The biggest calling card for these particular mages is their ability to unravel magical effects like yarn if they so choose, with the spells Counterspell and Dispel Magic being their proverbial bread and butter. A strange effect to also arise in conjunction with repeated exposure to this magic is an inherent resistance to carnage evoked by spells, and a startling resistance to falling prey to the spell itself.
Spells of note within this school include, but are not limited to: Shield, a simple but quite effective spell that shields the target from an attack that would otherwise damage them, as well as being the only thing known to block the Magic Missile spell outside of certain items, Counterspell, a spell that is meant to unbind a spell midcast, nullifying the caster's efforts, and Antimagic Field, a spell that nullifies all magical effects in a n area, even magical items, rendering them mundane until they leave the affected area.
