Etherborn
Etherborn; the basis for the name of Etherium.
Etherborn are individuals who are born under one or more unique circumstances. They can be born during a special time in a certain area, or in a unique place. Chosen by a higher power (not necessarily a god) to help guide the events surrounding them, they spend most of their lives drawn into a constant series of minor or major events that have an impact on the world. Some examples are wars, important political or social changes, revolutions, or even repelling world-threatening beings.
The reason they are known as etherborn is because of the old definition of ‘ether’: “A very rarefied and highly elastic substance formerly believed to permeate all space, including the interstices between the particles of matter. A medium whose vibrations constituted light and other electromagnetic radiation. The clear sky; the upper regions of air beyond the clouds.”
Given the nature of etherborn to be caught up in many events between groups of people, countries, even planets and multiple planes, the name fit. Some also see them as being a step above, or ‘ascended’ in some way from the common masses.
Starborn
Starborn are unique to Yalasra. These are born under, or influenced by, one of several powerful constellations during the Season Without Time. Because of this, they can be likened to pillars of support for Yalasra and, to a lesser extent, most of the rest of reality. Each starborn has varying inherent capabilities based on their constellation, and different ‘signature powers’ that set them apart from other starborn.
Current known kinds: Children of the End Times, and Catalysts.
Children of the End Times: These individuals are often referred to as ‘doombringers,’ for they bring an end to that which needs to end, whether or not anyone is aware of it. They are more than doombringers, however, for they also usher in new beginnings, and by ensuring a cycle rather than linear happenstance, they stave off the true End Times. They are also immune to doom-based and bad luck effects.
Should the call of the End Times actually sound, its notes will resonate in their blood, for they are literally a part of its song made flesh. This also results in a faint resonance for similar effects, and some forms of ‘ushering’ harmonics are physically painful.
Catalysts: These individuals are a bit less obvious than Children of the End Times, but are active agents of change, bringing a bit of chaos to stagnant societies.
Etherdrawn
Those whose lives have become irrevocably intertwined with an etherborn. Whether they had eventful lives or not before, they will never again know their original lifestyle. At least, not for very long at a time.
