Transmission & Vectors

In order to transmit the curse, a pre-existing vampire needs to drain a non-lethal amount of blood from the prospective individual, mix it with their own blood internally, and then have roughly the same amount of blood, now mixed with the vampire's, then regurgitated back into the mouth of the mortal - who must then swallow.
It is a very deliberate act and transmission cannot be done on accident - if the above is not performed with full willing intent, the process fails and the mortal will usually expel the necromantically-charged blood. If the process is performed with full willing intent by the vampire, then the curse takes hold and the transformation process begins.

Prevention

Don't get bit, and above all do not swallow any blood a vampire regurgitates back into your mouth.
