The giant violet nightshade is a flower bush with bell-shaped flower heads. The flowers bloom at night and glow in a soft, warm tone even after being pushed off or harvested, which is why they are often used as a light source.

Anatomy

It is a plant with a thick stem with a diameter of up to ten centimeters from which several branches with leaves and flower heads originate. The flower heads can reach a diameter of up to 15 centimeters.

Growth Rate & Stages

The plant can reach a height of one and a half meters within a year, reducing the growth speed afterward. It blooms all year round and pushes off the flower heads once a month to make place for new flowers.

Ecology and Habitats

The giant violet nightshade needs a certain amount of shade to grow. It grows typically on the windward side of mountains and within mixed forests.

The flower heads are either used as-is or get manufactured into nightshade lanterns with other materials like wood, ropes, and metal parts. The nightshade lanterns are mostly built from pushed-off flower heads.
