Etharis

Etharis is a land of magic and terror, of teetering nations and crumbling empires. Leaders watch their tentative hold over their subjects slip away in the wake of disease, unrest, poverty, and disasters. Threats against the stability of nations lurk in the shadows and stand firmly in the open—both from forces outside their borders and from rebels within.

Humans dominated the continent for centuries, but since the death of the gods, every form of power is tenuous. From the ancient Charneault Kingdom to the bustling port of a Morencia, the ambitious and the desperate vie for control. From the frigid Valikan expanse to the sweltering Castinellan coast, societies mobilize to combat invading armies and mystical forces that threaten civilization itself.

Each nation faces its own specific forms of threat, and even the most evil autocrats, like the Crimson Court of Ostoya, must be vigilant against forces that hope to tear them down. The threatening forces range from the magical to the mundane, from the subtle to the apocalyptic.

And everywhere there is strife, it is the common folks who suffer the most. The villages and outposts, the slums and the sanitariums: these are the places where the suffering of the whole of Etharis is made manifest. The powerless are always the first to fall, paying for their lack of options with their bodies and, far too often, their souls.
