Character Creation
All the rules for character creation
In this article, I will be covering everything you need to know before going into a one on one character creation session with your DM.If anything is unclear or if you have any more questions please don't hesitate and just ask the DM directly.
Character Concept
Before going into character creation the most important part for you to figure out is the concept of your character.Do you want to play a sneaking assassin who is out to avenge his family who got brutally murdered by a rival gang?
Or are you a wizard hell bound to find all the secrets of Eternium in order to bend the world to your will?
Perhaps you are a humble bard wanting to bring joy and love to the people of the Eternium whilst making a good living.
Knowing who your character is in the base concepts is enough for us to discuss and for us to put breath into him/her as we go through character creation and find a place for him/her in the world.
Besides the overall concept knowing what race you would like to play will help. But it is very much not necessary.
Especially seeing that some races are banned and some are in a special situation in Eternium that you cant be aware of at the moment.
All these nuances will be discussed during character creation.
Banned Races
-Aarakocra-high elf
-Aasimar
Classes
Eternium is played with D&D 5e, but we are not using any of the classes provided in official or playtest content. All characters start in character creation at the age of 6.
During this process, the DM will ask the played loads of questions about their character, like what do their parents do? Did they go to school? Are they popular?
All these questions are answered and reinforced with dice, dice are not used to decide anything.
(your character was popular in school, let's roll just how popular you were)
From all these questions and from this process we will find out proficiencies and saving throws of your character.
We will determine your affinities, and what fighting style your concept works best for.
The goal of this process is to allow you to play the character you really want to play without having to make compromises.
Whilst at the same time making the character feel rooted in Eternium.
You want to play a heavy armor wearing loxodon mage?
Why shouldn't you be able to?
This method of character creation will hopefully give all the freedom to the players while making them feel at home in Eternium.
Feats
All feats are allowed.I withhold the right to change all feats in order to make them work better with the new magic system or to adjust them better for your character.
Unearthed Archana
UA is simply not applicable for this world. Its playtest content intended to add more options for players, Eternium fully focuses on custom created and individual classes and characters. Removing all need for UA
Secrets
Each player will get 3 seed cards. These seed cards contain rumors, secrets, and myths of events, items or important people in the world.
Again this is a mechanic that hopefully leads to a more organic distribution of knowledge of Eternium.
Having knowledge floating around the table that is unique to certain players leads to better conversations and roleplaying.
That at least is the hope with all of this.
Music
Each player should pick out a song that describes or expresses their character. This song will be used during character introduction, to set the theme and the feeling for each character.
The hope is that it will give a deeper understanding of each other's characters.
