Portaler

Portaler was a term adopted by the Players of Eternium to describe themselves. In major cities, there are Portalurgists, shortened to be called Portalers, who will use their station and magical expertise to do as the name denote. They portal people to another major city. It can be quite the costly fee, so most only run one portal route. However, many are contracted by one of the thre main companies, each representing their relative layer.
These days, even players work for these companies, integrating themselves in with new locations or greater distances. It is an incredibly comptetative vocation, and people take great pride in their home to destination ports.
Each Portaler is often connected in some way to both their home and destination ports, which allows them to strengthen their connection infinetly more. Simply studying a place gives you little true understanding, and so it creates a weaker portal. They have discovered that being born and growing up in a city is a much stronger connection than simply living there for some time. This has brought in a natural diversity of people to work for the 3 Companies, boosting them in standing automatically.

Career

Qualifications

One must have studied to become at least that of Master Portalurgist, and been acreditated with at least one 100 kilometer portal distance with Cargo Class: Small or above.

Career Progression

Most Portalers start in their mid to late 20s, relative to their species' growth and maturity. While the ALPHA players who are portalers were able to accomplish the initiate profession within roughly 3 years of in game testing, most inhabitants of Eternium need about a decade to get to this stage.

Other Benefits

Portalers are allowed free passage through any of their respective comapny's portal routes. They also are provided medical benefits and vacations quite regularly. It's best for portalers to rest themselves every few weeks as it can draw too much on one's mind to hold open the rift between two places.

Perception

Purpose

It helps to link the world quite a bit, and has in a great infusion of new routes within the last decade as ALPHA players began to populate the world. It was started specfically to give players a few ways at the middle of their journies to travel farther faster.

Social Status

Portalers are held in high regard in any city that has at least a single Platform. It's illegal and harshly punished to claim to be a Portalurgist without the proper lisence from one of the three Companies.

Demographics

Roughly .05% of the population is a Portalurgist, estimating 3 billion people spread across the three levels of Eternium. A little over, but not much. These 15 million people are spread across the three Companies, though there are several more sorrounding posistions empolyed. These three are some of the largest companies in all of Eternium.
