Freloraptor

Freloraptors are mounts mainly used by Kravak'ors, middle class Èfrithel merchants, and small or solo travelers wishing to cross the desolate land. They travel with the Kravak'et, and are rarely found in the wild anymore.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They come in a wide variety of colors and features. All are mostly avian, however they have a lizard-like look to their eyes and moments. They stand at roughly six feet tall, are flightless, and have powerful legs that keep them safe and agile across Èfrithel's treacherous environment. From the heat of mud flats, to the volcanic ash and sand in the great flaming dunes of Areomath.   Claws extend at the end of each of their legs, however their inner claws are much larger and longer. Even more terrifying is the fact that it seems to be somewhat prehensile, easily tapping one or the other when impatiently waiting on other caravan creatures.

Genetics and Reproduction

Once a year during what would be considered the summer months in Èfrithel, during the hottest time of the year, Freloraptors mate. They are released from their working bonds, saddles and reigns, allowing them to roam the area around where the Kravak has stopped to wait out these few hot months. Before the Kravak moves along, within three months time, the eggs will have hatched. From there, they are transferred to a single nursery Kravak, cared for by special handlers whose only job is the care and raising of the important mercantile creatures.

Behaviour

They have a very extreme heirarchy, the term "pecking-order" applying a bit too well. It's a matriarchal society for the most part, small packs formulating around the eldest female of the family. Males are tossed out in most cases around year two, however as they have become more and more domesticated, they are seen more and more around the outskirts of the core group.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Their ability to store and reserve water is remarkable, even in a dry land where so many other creatures have also adapted to this problem. They seem to have a magical ability in regards to storing it, allowing them to have unmatched endurance for days while running across the Areomath.
