Wyrwood

Basic Information

Anatomy

Standing only around three feet tall, their bodies are primarily composed of tightly woven, magically animated plant matter – typically consisting of resilient hardwoods like oak and ironwood, interwoven with vines and occasionally embellished with decorative elements like seed pods or polished nuts. Their limbs are often surprisingly flexible, allowing for a range of movements beyond what one might expect from a wooden construct. Rather than a monolithic block, their torsos are constructed from carefully layered and bonded planks, creating a surprisingly lightweight yet sturdy core. The head, often the most detailed part of the Wyrwood, features carved facial features that, while not truly expressive, convey a sense of quiet intelligence and purpose. Small, glowing glyphs are typically etched into their bark-like skin, serving as conduits for the magical energy that animates them and potentially contributing to their ability to manipulate plant life.

Genetics and Reproduction

The specific manner in which Wyrwoods propagate is a tightly held secret. Some believe it was an arcane ritual created by a cabal of Ostman artificers many centuries ago, support by the Wyrwood being far more common in Ostman territories.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Wyrwood, despite being constructs of wood and plant matter, possess the sight and auditory capacity similar to naturally occuring humanoid species. Sound vibrates through their bodies, allowing them to detect subtle nuances and echoes. Their sense of touch is surprisingly sensitive, allowing them to differentiate between different types of wood, textures, and even feel the subtle vibrations of tiny insects crawling on them. The magic inherent in their construction permits them to see visible light twice as well as a human, as well as in perfect darkness albeit in black and white.
