Yeicatl (yay-KAH-tal)

The oldest known race of Esteria. This nearly extinct race can be found with the jungles of Sylvanhold, the last bastion against a forever changing world.

Etymology

The name of the race, Yeicatl, stems from their Philosophy of Three, a core belief of the Yeicatl where their bodies consist of three entities: the physical body, the mental body, and the spiritual body. "Yei" in their language means "Three" and "Catl" is a suffix that signifies association, thus a simple translation of the name is "Of Three".

Evolution

Not much is known of how the Yeicatl came into existance, whether they are the original intelligent lifeform on Esteria or merely a decendant of a more ancient race. Being the precursor of the Ae'dari and Human race, for most of their existance, the Yeicatl have stayed in the region today known as Sylvanhold. However, there has been evidence of their people living outside of the jungle. There are even similar ruins in the cold highlands of Highcrest, but still distinctly different from the ruins around Sylvanhold. However, many scholars have brushed these believes off as merely being ancient ruins of a time when Humans have begun separating themselves from the Yeicatl, much like the Ae'dari.

Anatomy

The bipedal humanoid precursor, the Yeicatl have many similarities with the many other races of Esteria. From similar bone structure to near exact muscle groups. Yet being the precursor to Humans and Ae'dari, the Yeicatl have their differences in anatomy. Most notably, their missing ring finger and their middle toe.
Due to living in the jungles of Sylvanhold, the Yeicatl have evolved with green skin, allowing them great camouflage and an edge when hunting prey. While their skin can be of many different hues of green, they are all explicitly green. Though it's mostly believed the color of their skin is due to their hunting grounds, an additional reason for it's green tint is their natural protection against the many venoms within the jungle.
Much like the Human race, their eye color come in many different colors. From a dark brown, to a bright blue. Though, the most common color is brown. Their hair color is most commonly of a dark tint, either a dark brown or pure black.
