Ae'dari (EYE-dahri)

One of the oldest races of Esteria. Stemming from the enchanted isle of Vae'aethel, this humanoid race have an innate affinity for Arcane, to which they've used to once dominate the mainland of Esteria.

Etymology

While the original name of the Ae'dari has been completely lost to time, or the concept of a name for their people had not yet been invented, the name Ae'dari has a particular connection to the moon. In Ae'dari language the word "Ae" comes from the old Yeicatl word for moon, "Mae". Together with their modern word "Dari" and the usage of the apostrophe to signify affiliation, the word "Ae'dari" is simply translated into "Children of the Moon".

Evolution

Though this is a widely disputed topic, most scholars believe the Ae'dari originated from the nearly-extinct race of Yeicatl. At one point in history, it is suggested that the Yeicatl migrated from their jungles in Sylvanhold and settled across Esteria. One particular group would settle on the enchanted island of Vae'aethel. On the island, the settled Yeicatl would over time evolve into the Ae'dari we know today. The Ae'dari today, still share similarities with their four-fingered ancestors. One of the more noticable traits similar to their ancestors, is the heightened hearing.
However, with time the Ae'dari would change drastically in appearance and ability. Though they were once green of skin, their skin would naturally turn lavender. A trait much attributed to their natural habitat of the island, a place brimming with Arcane energy. Along with their change in skin color, they would begin to show signs of arcane within themselves. The island's Arcane energies would seemingly become a part of the Ae'dari, as they grew with an innate affinity for Arcane.

Anatomy

While this bipedal humanoid seem to have many similarities with Humans, they are uniquely distinct. Sharing similar bone structure and muscle groups, like Humans, they have much better hand manipulation than their Yeicatl ancestors. Typically, the Ae'dari are often of slender and tall body types. On average, an Ae'dari will grow to the height of 190 cm.
Their skin is very different from their ancestors, the Yeicatl. Their skin is lavender in color, but it can vary in differing tones. It will mostly remain a purple hue, due to the vast amounts of Arcane flowing through their bodies, giving them a unique affinity to control the magic around them. Thus a skin color akin to that of Humans is believed to be the absence of Arcane flowing through their own blood. An affliction the Il'dari, a subrace of the Ae'dari, as a whole seem to have suffered after the Ascendance War.
Ae'dari have an increased eyesight, along with heightened hearing, allowing them to see and hear much farther than the average Human. Because of the Arcane within, their eye color is vastly different from that of their ancestors and Humans, ranging from a light peach to a dark plum color. Yet, they see exactly the same as the human eye, at least in terms of colors. Along with their Arcane affinity, their evolved eye sight allows the Ae'dari to easily detect Arcane as it flows through all things living.
The Ae'dari can be born with various hair colors, but the most common colors are white, black and purple. While brown and blonde are possible too, it is rare.
