Alaric Steel (AL-a-rik stEEL)

King Alaric "The Crimson Knight" Steel

Chosen of Solan, and famous miltary tactician during the Ascendance War. Alaric led the human revolt in battle. He later became King of Sorelia.

Early Life

Not much is known about Alaric's early life. Much of his life only became known after his role in the Ascendance War. Alaric was born a slave servant to a local slaveholder in An'misarei. For much of his life, he would spend serving his master. He would cook, clean, everything to please his owner, even allowing his master to force himself onto him. Like many other slaves, his parents were unknown.   As tensions rose on the mainland, Alaric would be lucky enough to serve his master during military council. Through every council, Alaric memorized his Ae'dari overlord's strategies. When Alaric learned of Vizar's plan, he was eager to free himself from the yoke of his slavers. He was easily accepted into the fold as he revealed his knowledge of Ae'dari military plans.

Slave uprising of An'misarei

While it is unknown how the nine heroes, also known as the Chosen of Solan, planned their revolt at the beginning of the Ascendance War, most scholars agree that Alaric played an integral part in military planning. A bond would quickly form between Alaric and his comrades-in-arms. Vizar would often seek him out for his expertise, while Balderick and Darian would keep the man with company as the war raged on.

Massacre of Redfield

Though they had planned to make their last stand at Highguard, their numbers proved too large to keep the force inside their wooden fortress. Alaric and Vizar was ultimately forced to meet their adversaries in the open field of Redfield. Under their leadership, they proved themselves formidable tacticians, but the battle was nonetheless one-sided. Alaric and Christain would lead an effective party of skirmishers to flank the Ae'dari, but eventually even military tactics would prove worthless against the Arcane might of the Ae'dari.   The battle was a major turning point for Alaric. In the aftermath of the defeat, Alaric would fully dedicate himself to the war effort. With the death of Darian, he would no longer seek company from his comrades. Instead, Alaric would spend his waking moments planning his next move against the Ae'dari. At Twinpeak Pass, Alaric and Vizar would prepare their last stand. They would meet victory or death.

King of Sorelia

After the Council of Seven, Alaric was granted the lands on which they made their last stand. Thousands of Humans would join Alaric as he settled down at Highguard. He would eventually be crowned King of Sorelia to follow Vizar's example. However, having lost his dearest friend, Darian, he would forever refuse friendship. Only would he come in contact with his former comrades as to strengthen his borders against any Ae'dari threat. Though, he would seek out Armar to expand the Chancel of Solan into Sorelia.   As friendship could no longer satisfy the newly crowned king, Alaric sought religion to unburden the man. Along with the Chancel of Solan, Alaric built a new future for his people. Secured by infrastructure, agriculture and religious sermon, he would ensure Sorelia always would have a place in this new world order. To honor his old friend, he would even raise a monument in Darian's name.
