Immortals
Immortals are a subrace of Edranites. In 299 AE, a plague wiped out a fifth of Edrana's population. The souls of the plague's victims are reborn with the ability to regain their old memories and skills, allowing these individuals to continuously learn and gain knowledge.
Typically, Immortals spend their childhood with only vague dreams of their previous lives. As they reach puberty, these dreams become clearer and memories begin to return. By the time adulthood is reached, the Immortal has reassumed their previous identity. It is not clear whether the act of reincarnating is immediate when born, or rather the Immortal's soul slowly splicing onto another young soul throughout the formative years of their life. Regardless, only a very small minority of Immortals show drastic changes from life to life.
Edranite culture in the past 150 years has revolved around these Immortals. It is seen as a point of status, so Edranites draw lines to their most closely related Immortal, forming clanlike families around them.
A subset of Immortal soldiers make up an elite military unit in the Edranite military known as the Immortal Legion. These highly experienced warriors serve their nation with honor and fervor.
