Military action

As the Goblins from the Westerly Isles began to flourish in their fledgling city of Hatchetwink, word was received from Elven and Gnomish scouts that their numbers were fast multiplying and would soon be on par with their respective capital cities. In a rare moment of military partnership, Elven and Gnomish forces were sent to lay siege to Hatchetwink and push the Goblins back to their Isles. However, Elven and Gnomish leadership grossly underestimated the Goblin's military prowess, suffering a massive defeat and loss of most of their forces.   Referred to by Gnomish and Elvish people as a "Goblin Uprising" in which an intrusive force carved land from the heart of Espen and claimed it for themselves, the Goblin refer to this as the Battle of Fundament. Fundament, the small mining village just outside of Hatchetwink from which the Goblin ambush was planned now stands as both a monument and warning to any who would encroach upon Goblin territory again.
