History & Lore

The mountains around Evolir are said to provide some of the most awe-inspiring vistas in Espen. Though the scenery provided by the landscape may appear benign, the dual purpose of the Observatory as a watchtower guarding against another Genasi Rebellion is no secret. During the night the largest and most advanced telescope in Espen scans the night sky for insight into the spaces beyond Espen, during the day its powerful lens is trained west at the Genasi Capital of Vitalinas.
The observatory can be leased by civilians for a nominal fee of 100 GP per day. However, due to the military importance of the observatory, the BOSC reserves the right to co-opt it at any time in case of an emergency.
In recent years the Elvish Union has seen fit to add a school to the Observatory, while it is one of Espen's newer institutions some of the best and brightest minds flocked to teach, mostly because the Elvish Union offered upwards of 550 GP per semester for instructors.

Management:

Ridder Oyuan, has been the lead researcher at the Uriyra Observatory for the last 6 months following the retirement of his predecessor. He can usually be found in the study of the observatory pouring over his predecessor's notes looking for further insights into the stars above and the enemy below. The notes detailed the movements of Tabaxi ships for the last year with no signs of an impending rebellion or much more than increased trade of tea, turnips, and silk. The design of the telescope within the observatory is unmatched in Espen as the entire apparatus can be elevated, lowered, and rotated for a full 360 panoramic view of the surrounding area.
Assistant researcher Cannen Avno is in charge of star charts, navigation, and cartography.
