Tri-Moon Festival

History & Lore

Celebrated across all three Human cities, and in the Western Isles, the Tri-Moon Festival is a celebration of the rare alignment that occurs every three years when the three moons that orbit Espen align in the night sky. For 3 nights the tri-waining moon hangs in the sky. Known as a sign of good fortune in human culture, the two nights (usually the longest nights of the year) the streets of human cities are washed with drink, music, and celebrations.   Known also as the festival of three's many of the festivities (and drinks) a multiplied in increasing value for the duration of the celebration.
Night One
A night of firsts. Considered to be a time to start new things. Hobbies, relationships, professions. Many human ships in the fleet are christened at set berth on this day as it is considered good luck. The largest amount of human ships leaves port during the Tri-Moon Festival, also making it a large commercial festival.
Night Two
Considered a night to repeat successes, if it has worked once, it shall work again. Also considered a night of good fortune to those who make second attempts at failed enterprises. Or as it is written in the Illuminated Manifests:
"/Nocton Dua (Succeed Again) / - Repeat that which is has brought you your greatest joys, attempt again that which has seen your sordid failures. For Valkur has blessed his people to succeed, and succeed again."
Night Three
Known as the trinomial night. The third night of the festival is a time for putting to rest old grievances, completing tasks, and achieving successes that will last three fortnights. The Trinomial night is known for producing large wagers and human's taking high risks. For this reason, even though Goblin do not (technically) celebrate the Tri-Moon Festival, their casinos are fully staffed for the entire 3-day event.

Observances:

Occurring in the early fall, the Tri-Moon Festival also denotes the longest night of the calendar year. Beginning on Vermillion 127 and ending on Vermillion 129, the 3 day festival is celebrated by humans all across Espen.
