The Verdent Library & College

History & Lore

The former arena for combat was in a state of disrepair for nearly 200 years until it was purchased by the Ashen Savages and gifted to the Nexkapan Family for more than 1000 years of military service. Their family history was one littered with laurels and glory in the Elven culture. Famed for their battle prowess on the field, the Nexkapan's genealogy more closely resembles the conflicts that have shaped Espen's history, so much in fact that whenever a new son is born to the family, many of the more superstitious Elves see it as an omen of impending conflict. Given their place in Eleven military histories, their family seemed the best and most logical choice to manage the Verdent Library.   Currently, the Verdent Library houses over 300 artifacts, some of which trace back as far as the Drow Elf compact. The oldest of which being the Phasic Longsword, wielded by King Aphos Vizax. The sword is said to cause the same madness and compulsions that earned King Vizax the name 'The Blood Rite King'. While wielding the sword, the king was said to have become obsessed with unifying the Elvish people in preparation for what he called the Gods' War. Though he spoke of it regularly, few believed such a war would ever come to fruition, even still his compulsion to unify the elvish people in preparation proved to be one of the very reasons for the schism between High Elves and Drow Elves.

Management

Pavil Nexkapan, the current manager of the Verdent Library is himself a veteran of two wars. An expert marksman and equally lethal with the trident and daggers, he has cataloged 85 artifacts from over 41 different battles. Many of these artifacts required an arduous process for verification that can take as much as 5 years of study. The process of Everore dating is a new scientific methodology that, while in its infancy, is becoming increasingly popular with scholars and sages and has allowed for appropriate attribution for a number of artifacts that would have been otherwise lost to history. Though the process includes a measure of divination the practice itself has proved accurate to within 2 UE, and in some cases of stronger magical items the weapon's origins have been able to be narrowed down to the particular month and week of creation.
