The Forlorn

History:

A group of pirates and mercenaries had plagued the Gnomish Council for decades when the Dappletwist Offensive began. The Gnome Council did not have the resources to handle the endless series of skirmishes between the pirate crew known as The Bloodsails and the mercenary group known as the Brotherhood of Knives.
The Bloodsails and the Brotherhood War threatened the very stability of Gnomish civilization, to remedy this the Gnomish Council authorized a covert operation against both organizations. Four individuals were chosen for this mission and inserted themselves into the organizations at high levels.  Unfortunately, before the plan to eliminate the leadership of both groups could be executed, the 4 were discovered.
In a move unexpected by the Gnomish Council, the Bloodsails and the Brotherhood ceased hostilities and joined forces. In doing so uncovered the plot against them. For their betrayal, the four were tortured for a month straight, bringing each of them to the brink of insanity.  In their dying moments, their leader Nezu was approached by a hooded figure, promising power, vengeance, and a cursed life of misanthropy. An anti-life.
The four accepted the deal and the power that came with it and exacted the vengeance they were promised.  To that end, they achieved their mission, as the unified group dubbed the Brotherhood of Blood was summarily destroyed and erased from the annuls of Gnomish history. Today their whereabouts are unknown, but it is said they still sail the seas of Espen exacting their eternal revenge on pirate and mercenary alike.
