The Cathedral of the Sacred Flame

History & Lore

At the center of the massive tower churns 'the heart of Ignis'. A massive hunk of molten rock and magma that pools under the Cathedral itself. Though tremors are a common occurrence around the site of the Cathedral, the massive stone slabs that make up the bulk of the Cathedral are not only as old as the city itself, but have never needed repair or maintenance, as the molten core that pumps through the walls and structures act as a bonding agent repairing any damage as it happens.
For this reason, in more dire times, the Cathedral has been used as a last refuge against invasions and attacks. When the Genasi Rebellions threatened the sanctity of Nin, it was from the Cathedral that the Dwarves staged their counteroffensive. The Altar itself acted as a forge to form weapons that secured the Dwarves the city, beating back their adversaries block by block until the city had been reclaimed.

Apostle King

Ruling from the Cinder Throne is Drazzic Redpike, a name many are familiar with due to his fighting prowess when a small garrison of Dwarven Troops was ambushed by a group of Dread Obsidians. Using what became known as the Redpike Manuvere, Drazzic managed to not only survive the ambush from the Dread Obisidians but managed to do so without losing a single soldier. When he returned to the Nin, he received not only a hero's welcome, but the news that the previous Apostle King Torelak Oakbrow III had suddenly, and tragically died. Though the lines of succession were clear, Dwarves are not a group to be prisoners of tradition, and a Burning Summit was convened and Drazzic was named the new Apostle King within the day.
The Redpikes were said to hail from the Copperbeard bloodline, giving them royal rite, but even without the Royal Rite, the Burning Summit declared Drazzing Apostle King with a near-unanimous decision. Only one holdout, Avigar Nisk, a matriarch from another family prevented the first Unanimous Apostle King in Dwarven History.
