The Burning Spirit Hospital

Ownership

The envy of nearly all other healing establishments in Espen, the Burning Spirit Hospital is a marvel to behold. Shuri Oan, the head cleric at the Burning Spirit believes each person’s energy is unique and doesn’t fall into the fads of mass-produced potions or one size fit all elixirs. This has led to cutting-edge research being completed under her tutelage. Most of the Clerics, Monks, Druids, and Paladins that she has trained also subscribe to her effective, yet unorthodox methods. While the quality of healing is undeniable, the slow methodical procedure taken to administer has occasionally been a source of contention. Shuri's salves and balms are relatively slow-acting but have also kept some who use them regularly from death in dire situations.   As a newer feature of the Hospital, the western wing has been dedicated to educating and preparing new healers, doctors, and potion crafters. While this is one of the newer colleges in Espen being only 5 years old, enrollment has steadily increased year over year since its inception.

History & Lore

The Burining Spirit was built as a response to the Second Genasi Rebellions, when injured were pouring into Nin from nearby battlefields almost daily. Althought it was constructed in just under 4 months, the Dwarves, who place a high value on craftsmanship spared no expense in getting both quality materials from the Eastern Quarries and quality stonemasons from Talc & Granite Trade school in Viggrom   Despite the ample space provided at the Burning Spirit, most dwarves are still reticent to request medical assistance, meaning the Burning Spirit usually ends up with rather severe cases, usually from individuals who have forgone treatment for such an extended period of time they have to be brought in by friends or loved ones. The sheer size of the 250 bed hospital allows for regular emergency cases as well as long term cases to be handles en masse. Staffed by over 70 healers, the annual cost for the components to cast some healing spells alone would have put most hospitals under water. However, as most of the patients who visit the Burning Spirit are courtesy of the Kneecracker, the bar has agreed to cover a large portion of the hospitals overhead costs.
