The Black Sky Scrolls

History:

Rarely talked about in polite society, The Black Sky is an omen of immense gravitas. It comes from a long standing myth of Human culture. When Valkur looked down on his people and saw the undisciplined and feral masses he was displeased.  Their debauchery knew no bounds and their faith was weak. Vakur sent his minions, The Black Sky to decend on human villages consuming their inhanbitants leaving a single individual to carry his message of The Revival of Sol.   The Revival of Sol requred Humans to not only repent for their sins but to become missionaries for Valkur. The Black Sky Scrolls at their purest essence are a curse visited upon the unfailthful, the vicitims of which either die an unseemly death or are overtaken by the madness becoming the black sky themseleves.   The Scrolls, which are considered cursed by many are also said to contain prophecy for a time when Vakur would again look down in judgement, but not just of Humans, but of Espen as a whole.  Having charged Humans with the spread of his message and its tenets, Valkur will decide if Humans have made appropriate strides into other cultures.  If he finds the status of Espen wanting he will again send the black sky, but this time to raze the world and rebuild it in his own image.

Excerpt: Glory of the Faithful

With steadfast resolve and unwavering might,
Hold on and stay low through the darkest night.
For I shall be your shield, your guiding light,
And keep you safe in my loving sight.
When the winds of uncertainty begin to blow,
I'll cradle you to my chest and soothe your woe.
I cannot halt the tumult that fate may bestow,
But by your side, my faithful, we'll weather any foe.
Though tears may fall and sorrow may abound,
In my embrace, a solace shall be found.
And though the world may crumble to the ground,
Together, we shall rise and our faith, profound.

Relevance:

A longstanding prophecy that is deemed an omen of doom for other cultures, this document is thought to be the origins of the Humans desire and focus on espionage.  Originally conceved as a way to incept Valkur's teachings into the local zeitgeist of other cultures, it has since taken on a life of its own.
