Rough & Tumble

History & Lore

Odias Marblebock was once a lowly street urchin who had a number of run-ins with the guards in Nin for sneak thievery and general hoodwinkery. He spent more than 2 years in the dungeons on various charges before his 18th birthday. After hooking up with a small gang, the Rough & Tumbles, he quickly worked his way to the top, changed the way they were doing things. No longer wishing to press his luck he sought to go legitimate, but with little in the way of resources, he was unsure how exactly to do that. It wasn't until he noticed a local hunting party coming back from an excursion that he had an idea. Each time they returned they were overburdened with scraps of cloth and leather that were far too small for them to sell.   For a few coppers, they let him have what little remained from their excursions. Saving up scraps until he could produce his first pair of patchwork leather boots. He sold them for 4 gold, not a great price for a cobbler, but given that he'd only paid 30 coppers for the materials, it was his first honest profit.

Management

With that 4 gold, Odias purchased enough scraps to make his next 28 pairs of boots, adding increasingly technical and complex elements to each pair. Within a year, his boots were the hottest items in Nin, the average pair costing nearly 50 GP, collectors clamored for "his early work" saying it represented the pioneering spirit of the dwarven people.  Odias, who has neither the desire nor the temperament for fame has spent most of the last 2 years constructing an addition to his workshop that allows him to access from his workshop to his home without needing to step foot outside.  It was a drastic step, but one that became quickly necessary as once while walking home, he had the boots he was wearing stolen from him at dagger-point.  The greatest irony there was that, due to his humble beginnings, Odias never cared much for adornments or flash and was simply wearing 5 GP pair of patchwork leather workman's boots.
