New Haven Racetrack

History & Lore

The jewel of the racing circuits in Espen is undeniably New Haven. The 2.3-mile tri-oval track is not only the most popular but hosts the Grande Derby each year. With a variety of races to choose from and 9 different track configurations, the overall draw has begun to rival Hatchetwink's Haven Casino & Brothel for gambling capital of Espen.   The Grande Derby is the spectacle of spectacles, as it was also one of the first tracks in existence, the rides tend to refer to the race as "the granddaddy of them all."  the second turn of the tri-oval is a hairpin  160° turn, just off the track, is a 90 foot tall memorial of past winners known as "Victor's Turn."

Management

New Haven's race tracks were designed by Rabblen Greenhook when Nattan Mal was still in a substantial amount of debt. Rabblen's already existing debts had given him a number of wealthy contacts, and instead of paying off his debts, he decided to go further into debt by leveraging what little collateral he had left. The project ended up going 6,000 GP over budget and as of opening the track owed more than 9,000 GP. However, once the track management changed from Rabblen to Synthforth, the track became profitable nearly overnight. In 3 years the 9,000 GP debt had been paid off and the track was doing so well that they were even able to extend lines of credit.
