Historical Context
Kamala is said to have been discovered by Nasir Kamala, a Wood Elf early in this history of Espen. Back before cities stretched to the skies and when roads were only footpaths through the dense forest that stretched endlessly across the plains, Nasir attempted to lead her people from their war-torn village to somewhere better. Where that place was she did not know but trusted
Ashenvale to guide her. When her people were on the verge of starvation, she ate a rare root that she found at the base of a waterfall. That night dreams fell upon her showing her a vision of a valley where her people would be safe.
As she led them there, guided by visions the root provided, and when they arrived in the valley obscured by trees that rose high beyond what any of them could imagine they knew Ashenvale had led them home, as a sign of her goodwill, Ashenvale blessed the ground that had been all but devoid of edible vegetation with a bountiful harvest for the next 5 days. 1 day of harvest for each Veda of the faith. On the 5th day, the ground brought forth an abundance of Kamla Root which the new village learned to cultivate.
Social Context
While widely used in Elvish culture it is looked down upon in Genasi and Human culture as it has very little (if any medicinal) benefit and serves only to set the mind in a euphoric and sometimes suggestable state. Individuals who partake in Kamala Root in its various forms and extracts usually fair very well in social interactions as the substance connects them on a higher level to society, however long term use can lead to a suppressed cognitive state where reflexes dull.
Herbalism
Kamala Root can be used in a variety of Elixir and Potions however many of the resultant potions will have a psychotropic effect. The essence of the root can be extracted into salves, balms, potions, poisions, elixirs, and even hard candy.
