Itching Saffron

Botanist Findings:

  Itching Saffron is hardly distinguishable from ordinary saffron. With only a subtle difference in pistil being off-white instead of red it can cause farmers are great deal of frustration. As it cross-pollinates with a number of flowers and crop itching Saffron can ruin an entire harvest. Its only saving grace is that it primarily appears in the wild in arid climates and an extended rainy season has a negative effect on its growth and proliferation.   As Tabaxi, Genasi, Orcs, and Goblins are immune it is not greeted with the same animus and is used as a seasoning in those cultures. Humans are particularly susceptible to its effect, causing irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat causing an itching sensation that is only aggravated by trying to scratch it.  

Horticultural Findings:

  If left untended can cause temporary and permanent blindness in Humans, Gnomes, Dwarves, and Elves. A potion containing Sweet Bower, Aloe, and Holy Water is commonly used to treat those suffering through exposure. When cross pollinated the effect are more mild resulting in an itchy throat and eyes which can be resolved by flushing the affected area with water.   Usually sprouting up in flood plains they are most common among riverbeds. Dealing with Itching Saffron can be a hazard not only to an individual health, but their attire as the dye within the flower's stem dyes whatever it touches a deep red. Stained boots and pants are a common sign of a saffron farmer, as are itchy eyes.  

Herbalism Findings:

  As an irritant, it is rather effective at disarming and debilitating enemies that are susceptible to it. The flowers and be dried and ground into a powder that when set on fire can engulf an area in red powder. If the powder is concentrated enough it can stop up to 10 people. "
