Innovators Convention - InCon

History & Lore

Started after the Twilight Accords were signed, the annual Innovators Convention or InCon was launched in response to the backlash the Gnomish Council faced regarding the Twilight District Incident. Designed as a way to monitor and regulate new magic and technologies, InCon quickly took on a life of its own. In its inaugural year, it was nothing more than a sparse gathering of tinkerers who were largely seen as eccentric enthusiasts with no ability to ply the finer skills of true inventors but this quickly changed. Each year InCon drew larger and larger crowds until it became the annual event that encapsulates the Gnomish spirit of creativity and curiosity.   Taking place over the course of a week, InCon is now divided up into a series of talk, technology displays, and demonstrations on wild magix.

Events

The Talks-In-Shops are a series of talks regarding the latest theories and suppositions on the topics of Novel Elements, Leyline Theory, and Avant-Technology . Talks, which often turn into clamorous debates have been known to go on for hours, and sometimes days. Most notably, the talk hosted by Trapos Wildfall of Gadgets and Widgets; the talk lasted for 19 hours and centered around his most recent work The Practical Applications of Ferrofluid as Amalgamated Everore.   The talks on Leyline Theory and Avant-Technologies are equally contested. Usually, the most cutting-edge theories and technologies are on display during these talks, but for this reason, the Gnome Council tightly monitors the movements of all speakers and works to ensure dangerous technologies are not demonstrated during the event. Leyline Theory has been mostly stagnant as a topic though the newest theories suggest the existence of a new leyline, only recently discovered through Arcanatelemtors, a new method for divining arcane properties of an object.

Cultural Relevance

While the Gnomish culture sees InCon as a massively popular and widely benign event, many other cultures see the event as another tragedy in the making as many of the same issues that led to the Twilight Incident can be found present at InCon. Though the talks and Leyline Theory research submissions are not met with too much animus, the Avant-Technology is met with protests annually as well as resounding rebukes from leaders of non-Gnomish cities.
