Infernal Peppercorn

Botanist Findings

Found only in the Charred Wilds, Shabazz Desert, and The Broken Lands Infernal Peppercorns present a unique challenge, known to spontaneously combust on hot days in the summer and at high temperatures while growing. Their piercing red color makes them stand out whether in the forest or desert. Studying such an unstable plant is particularly harrowing as it grows in droves along the forest floor and one wrong step can ignite an inferno. However, once the peppercorns are harvested and dried they are (mostly) harmless, aside from being the spiciest substance known. While it is recommended that no more than one portion be used on a dish dwarves tend to heap it on as a show of toughness and bravery. To date Nin holds the record for most deaths by Infernal Peppercorn.

Horticultural Findings

In UE 1088 a group of researchers attempted to grow Infernal Peppercorns in a small village outside the Hornblende Anchorage. They had successfully domesticated the plant to the new terrain and soil, but as the old saying goes 'You can take the Tabaxi out of the Tribe but you can't take the Tribe out of the Tabaxi', apparently such is true of the Infernal Peppercorn. On one scorching day in Southern Espen the 10-acre farm ignited nearly at once. The smoke from the blaze made the Anchorage all but inaccessible and crippled travel and trade in the region for 6 months causing unchecked inflation in Twinnam and Alttanes for 2 years. Since then, it is illegal to own more the 2 infernal peppercorn plants at a time in most cities

Herbalism

While most use is as a seasoning or reagent, it has a massive following as a recreational drug for daredevils and adrenaline junkies.
