Gnome Councils Chambers

History & Lore

Erected in UE 3 to house the original Gnomish Council, the current Gnome Council Chambers are on the exact same site. The current iterations of the chamber are substantially larger than the original by some measure. As the original Gnomish Council consisted of only 3 priestess and their squires the council Chambers consisted of two-tiered rooms interconnected by a narrow hallway and were more than sufficient. However as the Gnomish population grew and became preeminent in Espen, more oversight was necessary to govern their numbers.   The Council size swelled to 7 within 1,000 years, the new position of Envoy was created to serve as ambassadors for the Gnomish people in cities outside of Gnomish control. Priestesses were installed in each gnomish controlled city to ensure the peace, and were answerable only to the Gnomish Council.   The current structure itself consists of multiple antechambers, bedchambers, a crypt, the Codex, the Tribunal Assembly, and the Council Chambers proper.

Crypt:

The crypt uses a traditional Dwarven design denoted by the sign above the entrance "ᚲᚱᛁᛈᛏ" holds former Council Members and Head Priestesses and is dug more than 300 feet below sea level. Though today only Gnomish leaders and dignitaries are allowed inside, its construction was actually completed by Dwarves from Nin. While they were paid handsomely to complete the task, doing so was not without stipulations. Each dwarf who worked on the project was not allowed to leave the city limits of Spritzlewerks or even discuss the design of the Crypt itself. Though it is believe that hidden somewhere in Sprizlewerks are the blueprints of the crypt hidden by Dwogneam Axebringer, a dwarf who spent 9 years working on the design of the Crypt.

The Codex:

The codex cataloges the collective legal knowledge of the Gnomish people. With over 1,500 scrolls in their library the codex not only has the current iterations of all laws in effect, but the history of those laws and each of their purmutations throughout Gnomish history.

Tribunal Assembly:

The tribunal assembly is where Gnomish High Crimes are tried. Crimes against the Gnomish people, crimes against Irradeascents, or crimes by the Shimmering Hand are all tried here. With only the three eldest members of the council participating in proceedings the trial, the Assembly is designed to create the feeling of distance, reverences and import to proceedings as the Tribunal itself is elevated above the proceedings by 25 feet.

Council Chambers:

The Chambers themselves as modeled after a traditional forum designed to make each council member and speaker feel equal in all proceedings.
