Months

Months are 3 weeks long with the average season lasting 2-3 months.
  • Winter
    • Primerose - Named for an ancient Dwarven family, said to be the first great family of the North. Known for their prophetic visions they claimed many victories in battle. Those born in this month are said to possess insight into decisions.
    • Galecrest- Though the origin of this month's name is debatable, many Dwarves and Gnomes believe the month to be named for the half-Gnomish, half-Dwarvish Warrior King Dronnar Gale. Though other cultures believe the month named for a historic winter storm in which 46% of all lands were blanketed in snow. Regardless of its origins, this month is known for consistently producing the strongest winter storms and coldest days.
    • Eicewain (Winter/Spring) - Old Elvish for "Winter's Recessions" is considered the melting month, most of the heavier snowfalls dissipate. This causes severe flooding in riverbeds and across the plains.
  • Spring
    • Waketide - The first spring month, revered by Gnomes as the month of "Tidal Prophecies." This month, also so named for producing the strongest tides, though Gnomes don't fancy themselves superstitious, the last three Gnome Councilor-In-Chiefs have been born during Waketide.
    • Arborrun - Known for the intense floral blooms of the central forests. The month is so named for a common tradition among elves which involved navigating floral growth patterns a skill waining but not lost.
  • Summer
    • Lumice - Common for Sky Glass, how the humans in prehistory would describe lightning. The month is known for producing violent storms and lightning strikes across the central forests and deserts of Espen. The lightning strikes in the desert created a rare form of glass that became known as Lumice and is still widely used in jewelery.
    • Shenzen - Undercommon for "Sun's Time" this month historically has the longest days and least rainfall. Despite their avoidance of religion, Goblins do consider this month to be lucky and a good time for trade. During Yeroshen "Year of the Sun," the Goblin's of Hatchetwink capitalized on a nearly year long drought by trading on deep resereves of food and water.
    • Ambrosine (Summer/Fall) - Old Celestial for "The God's Time." So named for the number of events celebrating both old Gods and new Gods. It is also the only month in which Ambrose Hopps bloom. With honey-like and floral notes the hopps produce the strong but fragrant brew Ambrosine for which the month came be to known
  • Fall
    • Vermillion - Also known for it blooming flora, this month turns the northern and southern tropics a deep red with Vermillion Tea Tree flowers. The petals from both the tree and its floral blooms are widely used by the Dwarves for ceremonies and the Elves for medicinal purposes.
    • Hearthwake - As the year begins to turn cold, the northern and sourthern regions become a patchwork of awakened chimney stacks as the first frost (often in this month) send plumes of smoke into the sky. Wood stores see their first uses and traders seeking to beat the winter's grip retreat from trade posts in the northern climes back towards Central Espen
